American tennis sensation Coco Gauff looked very comfortable in her quarterfinal victory over Lin Zhu at the ASB Classic on Friday, cruising through following a dominant performance.
The 2022 Roland Garros runner-up required only 75 minutes to secure a 6-3 6-2 victory over her Chinese opponent, and the 18-year old is yet to drop a set this week. Although Zhu managed to keep up with the top seed through the first seven games, she was broken at 3-4 as Gauff continuously applied pressure to Zhu's serve. The sole break was all she need, racing through the first set in just over 30 minutes.
Gauff resumed her attack on Zhu's serve in the second set, obtaining an early break to lead 3-1. Any chance of a comeback for the World No.84 was quelled when Gauff got a second break, before serving out the match in dominant fashion.
The World No.7 is hoping to keep the momentum going into the semifinals, where she'll face the winner between Viktoria Kuzmova and seventh seed Danka Kovinic.
