Coco Gauff is through to the 3rd round of
Wimbledon after a strong showing against veteran Elena Vesnina 6-4 6-3.
Coco Gauff and Elena Vesnina played a very good match that was decided by small margins. The American was looking good early and did Vesnina and we did not see many chances for the returning player. At 3-2, Gauff had to save two break points which she did and that proved key.
Vesnina collapsed in the next game giving the American the 5-3 lead. From there the American was able to close out the set with 6-4. The 2nd set opened extremely well for Gauff who took a double break lead 3-0 early. She was hitting her shots and had very few mistakes.
However Vesnina would make a very good push after calling for a MTO pulling one break back. She put all of the pressure on Gauff and the American handled it fairly well. Vesnina came close to several break points but never actually got one and Gauff closed it out with 6-3.
