Coco Gauff survives dramatic clash with Kudermetova in Stuttgart

Coco Gauff complicated what should have been a pretty decent win for her unnecessarily but ultimately still beat Kudermetova at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 6-2 4-6 7-6(3).

The match itself featured very decent play from both players at times but both were very up and down. Gauff played well in the first set taking it 6-2 despite a slow start that saw Kudermetova break her early for a 2-1 lead. That was the last game she won as the American then won five games in a row to take the set.

The American was going pretty decently in the second set as well taking an early 3-0 lead and it seemed like it would be a rather good win for her against a tricky player. However, in somewhat typical Gauff fashion, the American would give back that lead allowing Kudermetova to turn a 4-2 deficit around to win the set 6-4.

It was just a very bad sequence for Guaff who couldn't find a good rhythm. She had similar struggles in the final set as she found herself down a break twice but broke back immediately each time. Then she threw away a 5-3 lead to give Kudermetova one more chance in the tiebreak however Guaff risked and outplayed her opponent.
