America’s tennis star
Coco Gauff has reportedly decided to
skip the doubles event in the
French Open 2024. The 20-year-old, often
regarded as one of the most highly-rated players currently playing in the women’s
singles category, was also reported to participate in the mega-events doubles category.
However, according to the latest report, she will not be featured at the doubles category event, as her partner
Jessica Pegula has recently recovered from an injury and cannot compete in the doubles category. The report further stated that the 30-year-old might not be fit enough to play at Roland Garros altogether. The second Grand Slam of the year will be
played from May 26 to June in the capital of France, Paris.
Even though the news might be a setback for Gauff, she will be
optimistic about having a good outing while playing in a competition where she has
a very good record. The Atlanta-born has played in the quarterfinals or beyond
in each of the last three editions at the Roland Garros. Her best outing in the
mega-event came in 2022 where she finished as the runner-up after losing in the
final to the current world number one Poland’s Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-1,
6-3.
