World number one
Iga Swiatek was unimpressed by a journalist's question during the press talk after her recent triumph at the
Rome Open. The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the best players currently playing in the women’s singles category. Swiatek recently participated in the Rome Open, where she lifted the title after beating world number two
Aryna Sabalenka
with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
After the match, a reporter asked her why she could not replicate her clay court performances on other courts. That did not go well with the Warsaw-born, who responded by saying, "You think the surfaces are the same?" she said during her post-match press conference. Have
you played on each of these surfaces? Have you played on each of these surfaces
you're talking about? Because they're different. Because the surfaces are
different.”
After that result, Swiatek will again start the upcoming
French Open as a strong favourite. The reigning world number has now won back-to-back
WTA 1000 events in the build-up to the year's second Grand Slam. Before winning
the Rome Open, Swiatek also lifted the Madrid Open by beating the same opponent
in the final. Swiatek has also won two back-to-back titles at the Roland Garros.
She won last year by beating Karolina Muchova in the final with the score of
6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
