Coco Gauff wins crazy 3-hour match against Aryna Sabalenka

Coco Gauff threw away a 3-0 lead in the 2nd set losing it and having to play a 3rd set tiebreak against Sabalenka ultimately winning it.

Aryna Sabalenka has struggled with her serve this year committing incredible amounts of double faults in each match and this was no different. She had 3 in the first two service games but other than that, the Belarussian played rather well. Both had early break points but neither was able to convert those and it remained calm until 5-5.

Both got into a nice rhythm as the set progressed but Gauff was the one that got the first break and it came after some poor judgment by Sabalenka. Aryna had that game in hand but she complicated things and paid the price. She also had a decent chance to break back but Gauff held from 15-40 to take the opening set 7-5.

The 2nd set featured more stable serving from Sabalenka and she generally played a bit better. Gauff was still able to get ahead and she added another break early to take a 3-0 lead. Sabalenka pulled one break back but had to save multiple break points at 2-4 not to fall behind again. It proved crucial as she would actually go on a 4-0 run after that to win the set 6-4.

Sabalenka then stormed out to a huge 3-0 lead at the start of the final set with Gauff visibly struggling. Mistakes and double faults would bring her back into the match and we ended up in a tiebreak. Gauff had mini breaks in hand on multiple occasions and despite Sabalenka pulling it back twice, the 3rd time proved too much.
