Belinda Bencic will be remembered as one of the last players to ever beat Serena Williams as the American will only play two more matches in her career.
That means that she can only lose two more matches before calling it quits and Bencic will have this memory forever. It was a decent match from Serena but the Swiss player was clearly better moving faster around the court and being sharper in her strokes. For Bencic it was certainly something special as she explained after the match:
"It was definitely special. It was more than the usual tennis match today. Also exciting and a bit overwhelming. It's great that I can be part of her career and her story. This was just really nice."
There was a small ceremony after the match with Serena given the mic to briefly addressed the crowd and unlike her career, it was nothing spectacular. Just a simple goodbye as Williams admitted she's terrible with goodbyes. Bencic got the soak in the experience as well admitting:
"Just appreciative and honoured to play her so many times and also here in Toronto. Really, just the greatest of all time. I really enjoyed it a lot. It was like a pinch-me moment."
