Tennis star Coco Gauff has become a household name, as the American prodigy has experienced a meteoric rise in the WTA circuit over the past two years. However, despite her success, the 20-year old still has a ways to go before reaching the summit of the WTA Rankings table.
Gauff currently sits at a career-high ranking of World No.3, trailing only Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. The American has amassed 7988 ranking points over the last year, during which she has added more accolades to her already impressive career.
The Atlanta native's impressive rankings haul includes four titles; her maiden Grand Slam at the 2023 US Open, a WTA 1000 title, a WTA 500 title and a WTA 250 title. Furthermore, she has reached two Grand Slam semifinals, three WTA 1000 semifinals and even finished in the final four at last season's year-ending WTA Finals event.
Nonetheless, Gauff's spectacular performance has seen her fall short of capturing the World No.1 spot. Had Gauff replicated these feats in 2017, 2018, 2019 or 2021, her ranking points total of 7988 would have been enough for her to claim the year-ending World No.1 ranking. However, the level of competition, led by Polish star Iga Swiatek, has raised the bar and standards . The current World No.1 has a total rankings haul of 10,473 points.
Both ladies are set to clash in a mouth-watering semifinal showdown in the Roland Garros semifinals on Friday. Although Swiatek has a 10-1 lead in career meetings, Gauff has been playing some of her best tennis and would need to pull off an upset in order to close the gap between them.
