World number two
Iga Swiatek has registered yet another milestone
in her already impressive career.
The 22-year-old is currently taking part in the China Open
where she got the better of fellow Polish player Magda Linette in the round of
16 in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-1.
After that win, Swiatek became the first women’s singles
player since Agnieszka Radwanska to register 60 or more wins in consecutive
seasons.
Swiatek is now set to face off against the winner of the
match between Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina and France’s Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinal
of the competition.
The Warsaw-born will be hoping to continue her winning run and
lift that title which will surely lift her morale after a bit of a roller
coaster ride.
Swiatek started the year slow as she was knocked out of the
Australian Open after losing in the fourth round clash against Elena Rybakina
in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
She bounced back in the French Open where she lifted the
title after getting the better of Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova in the
final with a score of 6–2, 5–7, 6–4.
But after that, not
much went right for the four-time Grand Slam winner as she lost the quarterfinal
at Wimbledon and was knocked out of the fourth round during the recently
concluded US Open.
