Fans on social media left amused as Swiss tennis star Belinda Bencic is still set to play in the Billie Jean King Cup.
The 26-year-old recently announced in a post on her official Instagram account announcing that she is pregnant. Despite the development, Bencic is set to play in the Billie Jean King Cup where she will be a part of the Switzerland team.
Fans on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — were left amused that the current world number 17 is still eager to take part in the competition despite being pregnant. Bencic did not have a great year at the highest level and despite playing in the main round of all four Grand Slams, she could not qualify for the quarterfinal or beyond in any of the mega events. The Flawil-born played in the fourth round of three Grand Slams — Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open — but on every occasion, she failed to cement a win.
In Melbourne, she lost to the current world number one Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 16 with a score of 7-5, 6-2. In London, Bencic came second-best in the fourth round after losing to the world number two Poland’s Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
In the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year, she lost to Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the round of 16 tie with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
