Danielle Collins overcome quite a bit of struggle against Bondar 6-3 3-6 6-3 to advance to the next round of the
Miami Open while
Leylah Fernandez crashed out against Muchova 4-6 6-7(2).
Both Danielle Collins and Leylah Fernandez were expected to do great things at this year's Miami Open and while once advanced the other crashed out. Collins returned to action in Miami with quite a solid performance overall but it was not without issues. Early on it was pretty decent from the Australian Open finalist as she rushed 6-3 1st finish.
Things did not work out so well in the 2nd set as the Hungarian won it with 6-3. She even took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd set leaving many Collins fans on the edge of their seats. The American consolidated herself on time to overturn that 2-1 lead into a 2-5 deficit after which she closed out the match with 6-3.
In the other interesting match, Leylah Fernandez took on Karolina Muchvoa who was once a very highly ranked tennis players but injury kept her out of commission for half a year. The Czech player dropped down in rankings quite a bit but today she proved she still knows how to play top-level tennis. Fernandez did not play her best and Muchova used that to her advantage.
The match was contested quite well by both but the difference was the serve as the Czech player hit it more consistently in the windy conditions of Miami. That allowed her to save 5/6 break points she faced and that was crucial. She used 3 of the 8 she had and that was it. A solid win for her and a disappointing loss for Fernandez.
