The WTA will be looking to expand it's influence in 2023, as it will touch down in Texas for a brand new tournament next year.
The city of Texas will play host to the ATX Open, a WTA 250 event that will run from February 27-March 5, 2023. Texas will have some experience in hosting WTA events, as it is the venue for the prestigious WTA Finals next month.
Although the entry list is yet to be announced, American Danielle Collins has been selected to headline the event. Collins had a great start to the 2022 season, reaching the Australian Open final before falling to an in-form Ashleigh Barty. This led to the 28-year old breaking into the Top 10 and becoming the American No.1 female player.
Although the Florida native has fallen to No.16 in the WTA rankings, she is still a force to be reckoned with on the tennis court. With other players yet to be announced, Collins star power should tip the scales in favor of the ATX Open being an exciting event.
