The second day at the Western & Southern Open brought again several surprises in the women's part of the draw. It is already clear that Kiki Bertens will not defend the title.

The day began interestingly. Victoria Azarenka advanced to the next round as Bencic retired from the match. So Azarenka decided to play tennis with a girl from the crowd.
Not so funny were the matches for Kerber and Bertens. Kerber lost in 2 sets with Anett Kontaveit and Venus Williams outplayed Bertens.
Of course, as we are used to among women, there was not enough of surprises and so in one of the last matches there was another.
World no.6 Petra Kvitova lost her match with Sakkari and she dropped out of the tournament. Even though she was the first one to break the opponent's serve in the third set, she lost 4-6, 6-2, 3-6.
