Among the last eight players in the quarterfinals at the Western & Southern Open, all three players competing for the 1st place in the WTA ranking remained in the battle.

For Ashleigh Barty, the match didn't look perfect at all. Kontaveit managed to win the first set in the match and in the second set she had the advantage of a break when the scoreboard was showing score 4-3. However, she failed to confirm it and lost the set 7-5. Barty was close to defeat also in the last set when her opponent led 5-3 but Barty was able to turn the set also this time and won the match.
The world no. 1 Osaka struggled in the second set, and also stayed on the court for a bit longer. But in the third set, she played her best tennis again and won it convincingly 6-2.
Svetlana Kuznetsova seems to be in great shape, after two 3-set wins over Sevastova and Yastremska she swept off Stephens 6-1, 6-2.
Simona Halep is definitely not going to win the title in Cincinnati. Madison Keys performed very good against Romanian and stopped her just before the quarter-finals.
