Kontaveit and Tursunov started working together in 2021, during which time the Estonian enjoyed the best results of her career, culminating with a rise to No. 2 in the WTA rankings on June 6th.
Tursunov, a former Top 20 ATP player, announced on social media that the
pair were stopping their successful seven-month collaboration, which started at the 2021 Western & Southern Open, a WTA 1000 event. The timing of the decision is very curious especially since she debuted her career-high ranking on the same day. The tone of the message makes it seem like she was the one that made it.
He wrote:
"I would like to announce that Anett and I will not continue the partnership. I would like to thank Anett for the opportunity, congratulate her on career-high ranking and wish her the best of luck onward. Feel proud of the work I put in and a bit sad but sometimes good things must come to an end."
"Thank you ocne again and best of luck."
