Serena Williams hung up her racket last year after the US Open, but fans are clamoring for the American to return to the sport she has dominated for over two decades.
Earlier this week, Williams teased fans with some pictures on Instagram that showed her getting back on the court. The 41-year old was pictured in a tennis outfit, while holding a racket in her hand.
"Just trying to stay fit here," read the caption.
However, several fans refused to believe she was just getting exercise and began to question and implore Williams to return to professional tennis.
"Staying fit to be ready for a comeback at the grand slams? 🤔🎾," one person speculated in the comments.
"Don’t play with our hearts Serena. 😭," another fan implored.
"The courts are calling… 👀📞" someone else teased under Tuesday's post, while another commenter put it simply telling the athlete, "Umm mmmm...Come back."
"Girl we’ll see you on the court soon, stop playing," another person wrote.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion has not completely ruled out a return from the sport, coyly stating she "is not retired" but is "evolving away from tennis" in an essay in Vogue Magazine.
