The draw has been confirmed ahead of the Abierto GNP Seguros (Monterrey Open) which takes place in the lead-up to the US Open as the final tournament before Flushing Meadows. It takes place between August 19-24, 2024.
Danielle Collins is top seed. After recent injury issues since the Olympic Games, she returns in Mexico. She faces Erika Andreeva or Anhelina Kalinina in the second round. Emma Navarro is perhaps the favourite though this week.
She has been in great form as of late and faces Ajla Tomljanovic or Camila Osorio in the second round. Her nearest seed is Magdalena Frech.
Elina Svitolina is also involved and takes on Elina Avanesyan or Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round. Ekaterina Alexandrova, Veronika Kudermetova, Linda Noskova are also among the seeds. But interestingly enough, the defending champion in Donna Vekic has withdrawn late.
As has Jasmine Paolini, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Yulia Putintseva in what is a WTA 500 which many have called out for bizarre placing in the week prior to a Grand Slam after two 1000 tournaments anyway.
