Sad moment for Iga Swiatek as she retires to Elena Rybakina in Rome They both played some beautiful tennis. 💔 Hopefully she recovers quickly for Roland Garros.
Elena Rybakina once again proved the undoing for Iga Swiatek who couldn't get past the Kazakh player ultimately retiring at 2-2 in the final set of the match.
Swiatek and Rybakina played another match after the Kazakh player won two matches against her this year already. This one was on clay so nobody was really surprised when Swiatek took an early lead in this match. She kept applying the pressure on Rybakina eventually taking the first set 6-2.
The second set followed a very similar pattern. Once again it was Swiatek who was up early but Rybakina didn't get discouraged and eventually got the break she needed. From there, the match went into the tiebreak where Rybakina proved better. She played a fantastic tiebreak to take it 7-3 and force another set.
The final set didn't last that long as Swiatek retired at 2-2 in the final set. It appears to be some kind of injury.

And for Wozniacki to even broach the "... it's all about who you know" subject is absurd since that afforded her an easy-in upon (at least) the first tourney upon her return. Self-absorbed personalities might best stick to TikTok and stop invoking privilege when it comes to qualifying for tourneys.
