Serena
Williams will star in the new ESPN docuseries "In the Arena."
The
retirement of
Serena Williams from professional tennis left a void in the
hearts of fans of the 23-time Grand Slam champion. The former world No. 1 will
once again be seen in the public eye, this time showcasing her personal and
professional life in a docuseries produced by ESPN.
The project
will have Williams revealing her most human and intimate side, with a release
date yet to be confirmed. The retired tennis player announced her involvement
in the series "In the Arena: Serena Williams" during Walt Disney
Company's "Upfront" presentation. Some of the topics that will be
showcased on-screen include Serena's journey from her childhood in Compton, the
injuries she faced, and issues of sexism and racism.
The series
will capture some of the most significant moments of Williams' career, both on
and off the court, while also highlighting the different facets of the
41-year-old American as an entrepreneur, mother, multiple champion, and
cultural icon.
