UNRÉAL 🌙 Just short of 3am in Montréal after 3h27m of play, No.3 seed Elena Rybakina comes from a set down to defeat Kasatkina 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(8) and reach the semifinals! #NBO23
Kazakhstan’s tennis star Elena Rybakina has stated that she was surprised to see how well she started the season despite feeling sick.
The 24-year-old is being renowned as one the most talented players currently playing in the circuit alongside the current world number one Iga Swiatek, second-ranked Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka and America’s Coco Gauff.
Rybakina was recently quoted in a report where she stated that even she was surprised with how well she started the season, largely because she was not feeling great.
“I started the season well, which I didn’t expect because I had quite a short preparation and I was sick right before the tournament,” she said. “Then in Melbourne, it was a tough first round and I had some issues after that match, which was a bit unlucky but that’s tennis.
“The season has only just started and there is still the whole year, so we will see how it goes. Hopefully she can stay healthy this season & play the kind of tennis we all know she can play.”
Rybakina had a disappointing campaign in the Australian Open where she was knocked out after losing in the second round to Anna Blinkova with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. She is now set to take part in the Abu Dhabi Open where she will face America’s Danielle Collins in the round of 16 on Thursday.
