America’s tennis player Danielle Collins has revealed that she has no idea about when to retire despite having an urge earlier to have a set date for her departure from the sport.
The 30-year-old produced a big result in the Abu Dhabi Open where she managed to defeat the former world number one Japan’s Naomi Osaka in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-0.
After the match, Collins, who already announced earlier that 2024 would be her last at the highest level while talking to the media, stated that at one time she wanted to have a certain date set to retire from the sport but that is not the case anymore as currently, she is feeling good about herself.
“I feel like I’m in good form even though it’s my last year,” she said. “I feel like I needed an end date. I’ve enjoyed my time on tour and had fun and gotten to have some amazing experiences I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Right now it’s not over yet. I’m still competing and battling.”
Collins will be hoping that the recent result will help her gain more confidence, especially after having a rather disappointing outing at the Australian Open where she lost to the current world number one Iga Swiatek in the second round with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
