World number three Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina has achieved yet another milestone with her impressive start to the 2024 season.
The 24-year-old, while playing in the first WTA 500 event in Brisbane, defeated the current world number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-3 on Sunday.
With that result, Rybakina has now won WTA events at all levels and the only major-level competition where she has never won is the Finals. She has lifted the WTA 250 events in Bucharest and Hobart, the WTA 500 event now in Brisbane and the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells and Rome.
Rybakina has also won a Grand Slam in her career. She lifted the Wimbledon title in 2022 after defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur with a score of 3–6, 6–2, 6–2. The Moscow-born will be hoping that the recent result will help her have a good time on the court in 2024 as well.
Rybakina had a pretty impressive season in 2023 where she finished runner-up at the Australian Open after losing to Sabalenka in the final with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4. Other than that, she also lost in the quarterfinal at Wimbledon to Jabeur with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 6-1.
