Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina recovered after consecutive losses with a solid performance to take down Keys 5-7 6-3 6-3.
The match was very exciting as we saw three sets with both players playing well albeit at different times in the match. Keys was 2-0 against Rybakina leading up to this match and she gave her quite a bit of trouble once more.
The first set was closely contested with Rybakina being the only player to have break points in the first half of the set. Keys grew more confident with each game and by the end of the set, she was playing better and taking it 7-5.
Keys opened the second set with another break but Rybakina let go of her tension and it worked. The ball-striking ability returned in full shine and she turned it around 4-1. From there it was a rather simple finish to take the second set 6-3.
She could have won that set without dropping any games as she was completely dominant. The domination continued in the final set as she opened with an early break 2-0. Keys battled back to 2-2 but lost her serve once more 2-4. Rybakina converted her 4th break point to take the set 6-3 and win the match.
