Elise Mertens is making changes ahead of the new season with the Belgian player coming forward with the news that David Goffin's brother is taking over as her head coach.
Mertens is coming off of an interesting season that had quite a bit of doubles success but not much singles success. The British player had some solid outings like the Madrid Masters where she took down Simona Halep in spectacular fashion but most of her victories came on the doubles circuit. Until recently Mertens was coached by her boyfriend Robbe Ceyssens but they have now decided to end their player-coach relationship.
Her new coach will be David Goffin's brother Simon Goffin who has extensive experience in tennis albeit not much in the coaching role of pro players. That is not the only change Mertens is making ahead of the 2022 season with the Belgian players also switching to Babolat racquets ahead of the season. She will hope those changes have a positive impact on her as she would like to capture more than one singles title like she did this year.
