Britain’s young tennis star
Emma Raducanu has reactivated her
account on the social media platform Instagram. The 22-year-old has been going
through a difficult patch, not just on the court but off the court as well.
Raducanu, who was once regarded as the next big thing after
winning the US Open at the age of just 18, had to deal with a stalker at the
Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship. That incident was followed by an unimpressive outing at the Indian Wells, where she was knocked out after losing in the round of 128 to Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Recently,
it was reported that Raducanu had deleted her account on the social media
platform Instagram. However, she has now returned to Instagram after a gap of
two days.
After that incident in Dubai, Raducanu was quoted in a report
where she explained the horror she had to deal with while facing the stalker in
Dubai. The former world number 13 stated that because of having tears in her eyes,
she could hardly see the ball during the contest against Karolina Muchova in
the second round.
"I was obviously very distraught,” she said. “I saw him
in the first game of the match and I was like, I don't know how I'm going to
finish. I literally couldn't see the ball through tears. I could barely
breathe. I was like, I need to just take a breather here. It was a very
emotional time. After the match I did break down in tears, but not necessarily
because I lost. There was just so much emotion in the last few weeks of the
events happening, and I just needed that week off to take a breather and come
here. I feel a lot better. [It] could have been dealt with better.
