Emma Raducanu proved better than feisty Maria Camila Osorio who battled hard having set points but Raducanu was able to prevail in two sets 7-6(5) and 7-6(4).
Oh boy, it was a proper roller coaster for Emma Raducanu in Washington. She started very well in this one taking an early lead as Osorio gifted her a couple of break points with some poor serving that she used. The Colombian struggled with her timing but after falling behind 1-4 she started to play better. Hitting the ball hard, Osorio forced Raducanu into tricky spots and the Brit did not handle it well.
Errors started mounting for Emma as she dropped four games in a row to fall behind 4-5. Osorio stepped up to serve out the set and she had two set points but serve a double fault both times. Eventually, Emma got a break point and she converted it to extend the set. It went to a tiebreak and Raducanu jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but sprayed a few errors to fall behind 3-5.
She then hit a couple of amazing forehands to make it 6-5 and converted her first set point to close out the brilliant first set. The 2nd set featured more impressive play by Raducanu as Osorio faltered as the match went on taking an MTO to treat foot blisters as well. Despite being up Raducanu once again threw away the lead having to play the tie-break.
She took a MTO before it to treat blisters on her hand and we went into the tiebreak. It was a decent one with both players having moment but Raducanu largely proved better and more stable when it mattered. She closed it out 7- to move on.
