Emma Raducanu put on a remarkable performance to beat Amanda Anisimova 6-1, 6-3, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open. This is undoubtedly one of the best results for the 22-year-old, who is now guaranteed to return to the top 50 for the first time since September 2022.
Interestingly, for the former US Open champion, this will be her first appearance in the quarterfinals of a WTA 1000 event. The victory over the 17th seed boosts her confidence as she heads into the Last 8, awaiting the winner between Marta Kostyuk (23rd) and Jessica Pegula (4th).
Right from the start, Raducanu took control of the match against an Anisimova who was far from the level she had shown against Mirra Andreeva the day before. The Brit won 18 of the first 21 points, securing two consecutive breaks to lead 4-0.
Anisimova managed to save another break point and held serve for the first time, but it made little difference as unforced errors continued to pile up for her, and Raducanu remained particularly focused. The 2021 US Open champion won 100% of her service points and 62% of points on return.
Closing out the set, Raducanu earned another break and comfortably won 6-1 in just 24 minutes.
At the start of the second set, Anisimova managed to win her first few return points after a streak of 15 consecutive points won from Raducanu's serve. It was brief, though, as she never got close to a break point. After leveling at 1-1, it seemed the home player could put up a fight in the second set.
Unforced errors kept cropping up on Anisimova's side, and she conceded her serve in the 4th game, allowing Raducanu to go up 3-1. Anisimova broke back, momentarily rekindling her chances, but service issues persisted. This was just a brief illusion, as Raducanu soon regained the advantage and stayed in control for the rest of the match.
In a dominant second set, Raducanu won 64% of her service points and 57% of points on return. The Brit held onto her lead and closed out the match impressively, 6-1, 6-3, to reach her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal. She now awaits the winner of the match between Jessica Pegula and Marta Kostyuk.
