2024 ATX Open will have its second edition from February 26 to March 3 in Austin, Texas, featuring former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka and former US Open champion Sloane Stephens as its main stars.
The WTA 250 tournament recently released the entry list without the defending champion of the inaugural tournament, Marta Kostyuk, a recent quarterfinalist in the Australian Open who opted to play in the WTA 500 San Diego Open during the same week. The ATX Open is scheduled the week before the WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells, which marks the beginning of the 'sunshine double' in the United States.
The top seed will be Ukrainian world No. 32 Anhelina Kalininia, who has suffered three consecutive defeats at the start of the year and is still seeking her first win. Following her are 2-times Grand Slam champion Azarenka (No. 33) and American Sloane Stephens (No. 39).
The draw will feature several local players aiming to make an impact, including young talents Peyton Stearns (No. 54) and Alycia Parkas (No. 72), as well as established player Danielle Collins, the Australian Open finalist in 2022.
There will also be a small Chinese contingent with Xi Yu Wang (No. 63), Yu Yuan (No. 64), and Yafan Wang (No. 78). The progress of Chinese women's tennis is evident, with seven players now in the top 100, highlighted by the strong performance of Qinwen Zheng in the recent Aussie Open, where she became the second Chinese woman to reach a Grand Slam final since Li Na.
