After missing out on the later half of the 2021 season due to injury, Eugenie Bouchard shared some news regarding her potential return.
The Canadian hasn't played since March when she tore the subscapularis muscle in her shoulder, and opted to undergo surgery in June. This effectively put an end to her season, although the 27-year old has acted as a color commentator for the Tennis Channel during this period.
"I saw the doctor last week and everything is on track and is going well, but he wants me to strengthen my shoulder a little bit more before I get back on court," Bouchard said on her Instagram story. "Everything is still on time, so I just need a few more weeks of intense PT and strengthening and then I can finally—five months later get on the court."
Now ranked at World No.231, Bouchard appeared in only four events this year. The 2014 Wimbledon finalist failed to qualify for the 2021 Australian Open, before losing in the first round at Lyon. After finishing runner-up in Guadalajara, the Canadian again fell in the first round at Monterrey, before choosing to tend to her injured shoulder.
