Eugenie Bouchard ended her Guadalajara experience in the second round getting beaten by
Jelena Ostapenko in three sets 7-5 2-6 6-1.
It was a very solid match for Bouchard who battled hard and had an amazing second set, but Jelena Ostapenko played better. The Latvian has been really strong all year long but she actually did not play that well in recent weeks.
Some of those struggles were prevalent in this match as well with Bouchard taking advantage of it. The first three games of the match feature players dropping their serve and Bouchard emerged with a 2-1 lead. She even took a double break to lead 4-1 but allowed Ostapenko to pull one back.
A huge chance was wasted at 5-4 when the Canadian served for the first set and it gave Ostapenko a chance to turn the score in her favoured and she did 7-5. The second set was just an error spree from Ostapenko who could not find her rhythm losing it 2-6. Eventually, she did find a good rhythm in the final set and it was thrashing.
6-1 with several winners in each game as Bouchard simply could not withstand the tremendous pressure. A good match but not good enough.
