Former player Sergiy Stakhovsky has called out
Aryna Sabalenka for her 'empty words' after she said that she would stop the war if she could.
The Belarusian player has been under fire recently simply due to her nationality as a Belarusian she deals with her country's government being supportive of Russia's efforts in Ukraine.
She avoided talking about the topic much but after reporters kept asking Sabalenka simply stated that she wants peace and would do anything to achieve it if she could.
Stakhovsky took issue with that because in his mind it's just empty words. He pointed out that she could use her platform to speak against the war which is true but also problematic considering the regime in that country. He wrote:
"Aryna Sabalenka - 'If there would be anything I could do to stop the war, I would do it but the reality is a cannot do anything'. The fact is that she even didn’t try to stop this war and she definitely has the platform to try. So everything she says is empty words."
