The former
world No. 4
Jelena Dokic suffered a strange accident that caused an eye injury
while watching the qualifying session of the Australian Grand Prix on Saturday.
The former Australian tennis player received medical attention after Fernando
Alonso went off the track at Albert Park in Melbourne and sprayed gravel on
some fans.
Dokic was
one of those affected and shared a video on social media showing a doctor
rinsing her eye with drops in a Mercedes lounge, recounting the incident and
joking about how her makeup remained intact.
“When you
go to the Formula One weekend at the
@ausgp and a car going off track happens right in
front of you, literally and all the rock debris flies right into your eye,” she
wrote on Instagram.
“Fernando
Alonso ran off track and the rock debris that you see flying off the back
wheels went straight into my right eye. Had to get treated for it but all good.
Just a bloodshot and scratched eye. I will survive. Amazing and quick work by
the paramedic at the @mercedesbenzau lounge.
“Thank you
all that took care of me. I am all good. Ready to watch some more F1.😂😂 Oh and I can confirm that the makeup
somehow stayed and didn’t come off. Amazing.”
The
qualifying session saw Max Verstappen as the fastest, with Carlos Sainz of
Ferrari joining him on the front row. Following them were Lando Norris of
McLaren, Charles Leclerc, and George Russell.
