Former world number four
Jelena Dokic beamed with pride
looking back at runs she had in the
Australian Open.
In a video posted on the social media platform Instagram,
the 40-year-old looked back at her run in the first Grand Slam of the year,
including the one where she debuted at the age of 15.
The Australian tennis star retired from the sport in 2014
after playing as a professional player for 16 seasons. Dokic had a struggling
time at the very top where she never managed to play in the final of any Grand
Slam.
Her best outing in a major event came at Wimbledon in the year
2000 where she was eventually knocked out of the competition after losing in
the semifinal to the former world number one America’s Lindsay Davenport with a
score of 6-4, 6-2.
Other than that, she also played in the quarterfinal of a
Grand Slam three times but on each occasion, she ended up on the losing side.
Her last quarterfinal appearance in a major tournament came while playing on home soil in the 2009 Australian Open where she lost to the former world number
one Russia’s Dinara Safina with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
