Australian tennis star
Ajla Tomljanovic is set to miss ‘a
couple of week’s’ action after underwent a surgery for the removal of the
uterine fibroids.
The 30-year-old announced the development in a post on her official
account on the social media platform Instagram where she wrote a long message and
expressed optimism that she will return to the court very soon.
“Hello everyone, unfortunately, I won’t be competing for a
couple of weeks… was very much looking forward to the next hard court events. I
had to get some uterine fibroids removed and will be watching from home while
healing. Will be back soon,” she wrote.
The news will be a major setback for Tomljanovic who remained
sidelined for the majority of the season last year because of a knee injury as well.
The Zagreb-born recently returned to the court and did take part in the
Australian Open 2024.
However, her journey
was short-lived as she was knocked out after losing in the second round to
Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko with a score of 6-0, 3-6, 6-4. Tomljanovic will be
hoping that the recent setback will give her the opportunity to return to how
she was performing in 2022 where she played in the quarterfinals in two
consecutive Grand Slams.
