Tennis coach
Patrick Mouratoglou believes that the current
world number one
Novak Djokovic will win two or three Grand Slams in 2024.
The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in
the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era, having
won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles. Ten of those victories came while playing
at the Australian Open which is a record in the competition’s history.
Djokovic had a rather disappointing outing in Melbourne
where he was knocked out after losing in the semifinal to Italy’s young tennis
star Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
Tennis coach Mouratoglou has been recently quoted in a
report where he backed Djokovic to win ‘two or three Grand Slams’ this year.
"Now he’s probably too disappointed, but in a few days,
'wow, they were so heavy,” he said. “I come back to normal pressure, the
pressure I'm used to, which is the pressure of being number one and the
greatest player of all time.' But this is why I feel too much for him. I still
think that Novak is going to win two to three Grand Slams this year."
The Belgrade-born came into the 2024 season after having an
impressive time on the court last year where he won three out of the four major
titles. His only defeat in a major tournament last year came in the final at
Wimbledon where he lost to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller with a
score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
