“Few years ago I wouldn’t even dream of moments like this”: Iga Swiatek shares sweet surprise from Taylor Swift

Iga Swiatek shared on social media that she received a personal note from Taylor Swift, along with an autograph from the pop star. The 6-time Grand Slam champion has often spoken of her admiration for the American singer, who sent the same package to several other celebrities amid the launch of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl.

The World No. 2 is taking a few weeks away from competition as she prepares for her participation in the WTA Finals, a tournament she will enter as the second seed—only behind Aryna Sabalenka—in her 5th consecutive appearance, where she was champion in 2023.

Swiatek is preparing for her return to the courts in two weeks, following a challenging Asian Swing with painful defeats, where she fell in the Round of 16 at the China Open to Emma Navarro (4-6, 6-4, 0-6) and the quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open to Jasmine Paolini (6-1, 6-2).

While the Pole is away from competition for a couple of weeks, she shared the special gift she received from Taylor Swift on social media. "Omg @taylorswift 🤩 Few years ago I wouldn’t even dream of moments like this. So grateful. 💚"

The message sent by the artist bears Taylor’s signature: "TS". The note read: "Well hi! If you’re reading this, you’re someone who has shown love, someone I admire, and ultimately someone I’d want to celebrate with as we welcome The Life of a Snowgirl into the world. I hope you like these gifts and record! With love, a snowgirl named Taylor."

Swiatek was one of several stars who received the gift from Taylor Swift. Also included were Today Host Jenna Bush, the Chiefs' starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes—3-time Super Bowl MVP—and the 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. The American former World No. 1 precisely showed a video of her unboxing the package weeks ago.

"It is no secret that I am a Swiftie, and it is no secret that I literally screamed when I walked into the house and saw this. Thank you, Taylor. And Olympia is literally gonna lose her mind. Swiatek was the second player to qualify for the WTA Finals after winning the Wimbledon title earlier this year, where she defeated Amanda Anisimova with an impressive 6-0, 6-0, to claim her 6th Grand Slam title and complete the Surface Slam—winning Major titles on all three surfaces.

The former World No. 1 has a 61-15 record this season and three titles—which are added to the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open and the WTA 500 Korea Open. However, she will arrive at the WTA Finals with a large gap of 1,687 points behind the first place in the WTA Race, currently occupied by Aryna Sabalenka, which—with only 1,500 points at stake at the WTA Finals for the undefeated champion—makes the possibility of recovering the top spot in the rankings this season unviable.
