After
Coco Gauff suffered a breakdown of her serve during her semifinal match against Aryna Sabalenka at the 2024
Wuhan Open, renown coach Rick Macci believes the serving woes can be quickly be corrected.
Gauff led Sabalenka by a set and a break during their semifinal bout, but succumbed to some poor serving that saw the Belarusian escape with the victory. The American struck 21 double faults during the match, the most by a player in a WTA main draw contest in 2024.
Macci believes a different approach is needed when dealing with Gauff's serve
The legendary coach, who trained 23-time Grand Slam champion
Serena Williams during the early years of her career, believes Gauff needs to apply a different, science-based technique in an attempt to fix her serve.
"Coco and her second serve can be fixed in less than 1 hour," said Macci. "Once that is biomechanically rewired and that is in the eye of the beholder the mental game overall becomes bolder."
Macci has worked with former World No.1 Andy Roddick and five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova. Furthermore, he was the youngest coach to be inducted into the USPTA Hall of Fame.
