There hasn't been much winning for
Garbine Muguruza lately as the Spanish player continued to struggle this year, even more so than last year with her 2023 record being 0-3 right now.
It was not a good match by Muguruza but it was okay, it just wasn't good enough to beat the rising star Noskova. The 18-year-old Czech player has been superb to start the year even though she suffered an early exit at the Australian Open. A good bounce-back happened in Lyon where she defeated Muguruza in straight sets.
It's not much of a scalp as it used to be but the Spanish player did threaten a bit in the second set. The first set was superbly played by the youngster as she demolished Muguruza 6-1, quite similar to the way Muguruza used to do back in the day. She is a clean ball striker and the indoor conditions suit her really well.
Muguruza responded in the second set taking an early lead but slowly but surely Noskova found her rhythm again and it was pretty evident that Muguruza lacked the confidence needed to hold serve. She gave it back and then lost her serve once more later in the set to lose it 6-4. An easy 6-1 6-4 win for Noskova who looks primed for a major breakout.
