Caroline Garcia had multiple break points against Donna Vekic in the 3rd set of the Monterrey final but ultimately she lost the match and it affected her.
The French player battled back from an 0-2 deficit in the second set to force a 3rd set. Most assume that she would be able to complete the comeback win because she generally was the player that determined the outcome of the rallies. Vekic hit some incredible shots from time to time and did well with her serve but generally, Garcia was the more aggressive one.
She intially positively reflected on loss to Vekic on Instagram writing:
"Runner up in Monterrey @abiertognpseguros This week was an inspirational week on and off court. Really enjoyed every minute of it. Loved the Mexican positives vibes."
However sometime later Garcia made some admission showing that the loss did impact her heavily:
“Terribly tired, physically and mentally, leaving to the airport in 6h but I can’t fall asleep, I am “afraid” to go to sleep. My mind is going crazy. Every time I switch off the lights and put my head on the pillow, I can rewatch my match - that serve catching the lines on break point or that easy forehand missed or that bad choice. Tennis can drive you crazy a little bit."
