The resurgence of
Caroline Garcia has been quite a spectacle, with the Frenchwoman putting on a superb display to oust favorite
Coco Gauff and secure her spot in the
US Open semifinals.
Garcia required just an hour and 37 minutes to prevail in a 6-3 6-4 victory, looking every bit as confident as she has been over the past few weeks. The former World No.4 had an amazing run to the Cincinnati title a few weeks ago, and has since been playing her best tennis of the season.
The first set saw the 28-year old dominate from the baseline with powerful groundstrokes, a tactic she employed throughout the match. Garcia hit 24 winners to only 22 unforced errors, winning 13 of 16 points at the net. This aggressive play paid off, as the relentless pressure led to some frustrated play by Gauff.
Despite the crowd's attempt to will the American teenager through, Gauff was unable to create any momentum. The Roland Garros runner-up was overpowered by the precise play from the Frenchwoman, who was quick to pounce on any weak second serves to secure her victory.
Garcia will face Wimbledon finalist
Ons Jabeur in the semifinals, as the Tunisian attempts to reach a second consecutive Grand Slam final.
