Gauff admits to succumbing to nerves prior to Wimbledon first round victory

After being introduced to the world at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships where she upset five-time champion Venus Williams, Coco Gauff made her return to the All England Club in a first round clash against Britain's Francesca Jones.

The American, now seeded 20th as opposed to being a qualifier two years ago, fought through a rain delay to emerge with the 7-5 6-4 victory. However, the 17-year old revealed after the match that she was extremely anxious as she stepped on the court.

"I was just super nervous coming in,” Gauff said. “I’m happy I was able to come through with the win. It’s been a steady process, seeing the game better and figuring out how to perform in the pressure moments."

Nonetheless, the World No.23 indicated she's ready to learn from every match this season. in order to avoid making the same mistakes twice.

“Last week I was serving for the match against Anastasija Sevastova and I didn’t go through in Eastbourne and I recognized that feeling today and I made sure I did what I was supposed to do to come out on top."
