Fresh off a trophy in Doha last week, Pegula and Gauff continued their doubles run with a winning effort at the start of the Dubai Championships.
The duo faced off against Kato and Sutijadi a pairing that has been playing better and better lately. That was particularly visible in the first set when the duo outplayed Gauff and Pegula for much of it. They took a break and then held it to win the first set 6-4. They had plenty of chances to win the match as they were up a break in the second set.
Gauff and Pegula pulled that break and early added another one later to win the set second. Despite the missed chances they managed to pull it out in the second set tiebreak winning it 7-5. They were actually down 1-4 in that tiebreak which was a very tricky situation to be in. After pulling out that second set, the duo went on to easily crush their opponents in the final set match tiebreak.
The final score was 10-2.
