Gauff battles past Kostyuk in Adelaide

Coco Gauff faced very stiff opposition from Marta Kostyuk in Adelaide but the American player proved better in three sets 6-3 5-7 6-3.

Gauff followed up her win in the previous round with another solid outing this time around taking down super talented Marta Kostyuk in three sets. It was a very typical Coco Gauff performance where she was ultimately the better player and won the match but with quite a bit of complication. The first set was very closely contested as we only saw one break point.

It was on the serve of Kostyuk and Gauff was able to convert it. She closed it off with 6-3. A solid set for the American who played pretty good on her own serves not allowing much. She was clinical on her opponent 2nd serve and that was the key. A similar thing did not happen in the 2nd set as Kotyuk was better early on. The Ukrainian took a 4-1 lead and when she was supposed to serve out the set she lost her serve.

Gauff pulled it back from 5-3 to 5-5 but she did not fully swing her momentum. Complicating things too much for herself she lost her serve once more late in the set to give Kostyuk the 2nd one with 7-5. She was in trouble early on in the 3rd almost losing her serve early but managed to stabilize going forward. She closed off the match with a 3-0 run to win the final set with 6-3.
