Camila Giorgi has denied allegations about using fake COVID-19 passports claiming that she was fully vaccinated in 'different places' and she is not in trouble.
Giorgi won the opening round of the
Australian Open campaign and after the match, she talked to the media. As expected she was immediately asked about the investigation back home after she and her family allegedly faked their COVID-19 passes. She answered questions calmly explaining that she was not in trouble:
"The doctor is being investigated, she had trouble in this [past] year with the law – a few times. I did all my vaccinations in different places so the trouble is with her, not me. And with that I’m very calm and of course if not I could not come here and play this tennis."
Giorgi allegedly used those fake documents to enter both Australia and the US last year. Tennis Australia chief Craig Tiley briefly commented on the situation:
"I think there’s still a lot to be uncovered on that and I think that’s going to be ultimately up to their family and the relevant authorities, including the tour. I don’t really know any further detail."
