Coco Gauff drew inspiration from an Olympic gold medalist in her Roland Garros final triumph. The American overcame a set deficit to defeat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 and secure her second Grand Slam title – once again by beating Sabalenka in the final.
The world No. 2 took revenge for her final loss at the Madrid Open a month ago against the same opponent. It was a great performance from the American, who capitalized on her opponent's errors and maintained great resilience when the match became complicated. During the match, Gauff took a photo of a note she had written.
Gauff revealed her source of inspiration on her Instagram stories, where she shared that she was inspired by sprinter Gabby Thomas, winner of three gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. "Ignore my handwriting but i saw @gabbythomas do this. Had to do the same lol."
The American had a note written with the phrase 'I will win French Open 2025.' and 'I will be the French Open 2025 champion' repeated several times.
Both Gauff and Thomas were part of the United States delegation at the Olympic Games, where Gauff even served as her country's female flag bearer.
