Taylor Townsend has produced a mesmerising display to dump out number four seed Simona Halep in a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win as she dismantled the Wimbledon champion.
Townsend had to come through qualifying to even reach the main draw of the US Open and was emotional on the court after defeating one of the world's best.
Halep did not play badly by any means but was seen off by a must-watch display of Serve and Volley Tennis by the American who at times was unplayable. This was shown with her coming to the net one hundred and five times during the contest.
This saw her miss a double match point which allowed Halep back into the contest forcing a tie break but this is when Townsend produced some of her best tennis.
She didn't falter on her next match point and claimed a brilliant win which sent the Arthur Ashe Stadium in raptures.
