Simona Halep continues in winning streak at the 2020 Australian Open when she recorded another 2-set victory in the 3rd round.

Previously, Halep defeated Jennifer Brady and Harriet Dart. However, after defeating Dart, the Romanian admitted she lost the focus during the 2nd round match at the Australian Open.
“I was leading pretty well at 5-1. But then, I don’t know what happened, I lost focus a little bit and she started to play freely. She didn’t miss that much. I played a little bit short. Then she controlled me a little bit."
In the third round, Halep faced Yulia Putintseva who defeated Su.-Wei Hsieh and Danielle Collins in the earlier rounds. But fir Halep it was not a big deal once again. She kicked-off the match with a perfect first set, winning it 6-1.
The second set was a bit closer when we did not see a break until the 5th game and then we saw 3 in a row. Putintseva had a chance to break Halep back again, but she did not manage to do so and the Romanian won the set 6-4 to secure the spot among the Last 16.
In the next round, she will meet the winner of the match between Elise Mertens and Cici Bellis. In the quarterfinals, Halep can face Iga Sviatek who defeated Donna Vekic 7-5, 6-3. Or Anett Kontaveit who eased past Belinda Bencic 6-0, 6-1.
