Fans are expected to gather in big numbers to see the
farewell match of the former world number two
Anett Kontaveit.
The 27-year-old has been forced to retire at such a young
age from professional tennis because of a lumbar disc degeneration issue.
In her last-ever match, Kontaveit is set to face the current
world number six and two-time Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur in Estonia’s
capital of Tallinn on Saturday.
As per the latest reports, half of the arena has already
been sold out whereas the free sale will begin from tomorrow.
Kontaveit will end her professional tennis career after
winning six WTA titles. However, she will be slightly disappointed with her
performances in the Grand Slams.
Her best outing in any major competition was back in 2020
where she was knocked out of the Australian Open in the quarterfinal after
losing to former world number one Simona Halep in straight sets with a score of
6-1, 6-1.
Other than that, Kontaveit never managed to play in a quarterfinal or beyond in any of the other Grand Slam events.
She will finish her
professional career with a win percentage of more than 65 in the women’s
singles category.
