Nick Kyrgios shared an emotional message for Naomi Osaka just weeks before her return to the WTA Tour.
The 4-times Grand Slam champion is gearing up for her major comeback to professional competitions after more than a year. The Japanese player last competed in September 2022 at the Tokyo Open and then announced a mental health break following her inconsistent results that season.
Naomi Osaka, 26, announced a few months later that she was pregnant, and in July of this year, she welcomed her first daughter, Shai. The former world No. 1 is now preparing for her return, six months after the birth of her daughter, aiming to compete at the highest level on the Tour.
Osaka will make her comeback at the WTA 500 Brisbane International Open, starting on December 31, and will seek to gain competitive rhythm before playing in the Australian Open, a tournament she won in 2019 and 2021. Recently, Nick Kyrgios sent a message of support to Osaka through Instagram, celebrating her return to the courts.
“The best part of journey is realising that we can all learn something from someone. Will be following and supporting your comeback @naomiosaka !! Happy to help anytime. The whole Kyrgios team is behind you,” wrote Kyrgios on his Instagram account.
Kyrgios and Osaka have known each other for several years, and both have previously expressed their admiration for each other's game. The Australian placed trust in Osaka when she signed a contract with his newly created agency, Evolve. Additionally, both athletes are co-owners of the Miami Pickleball Club, a facility dedicated to the sport of pickleball.
The Australian has consistently shown his admiration for Osaka's achievements and how she inspires millions of people around the world. “Naomi, I love what she brings to the sport. I think she's an amazing athlete. She can play some great tennis, but what she can do off the court is even more inspirational. She has so many people looking up to her. She inspires millions of people and I think that's something that I bring, as well.”
