Although WTA legend
Serena Williams is now the mother of two beautiful daughters, the former World No.1 recently revealed she was worried regarding the process of childbirth before giving birth to her first child.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion retired from tennis at the 2022 US Open, following over two decades of dominance in the sport. Prior to her hanging up her racket however, she announced she was pregnant in 2017, and remarkably won her final Grand Slam title at that year's Australian Open while eight weeks pregnant with her first child, Olympia.
Williams gets candid on her reaction to childbirth
The 43-year old was voted as Glamour Magazine's Global Woman of the Year for 2024, adding to her distinguished list of accolades. In an interview with Glamour, Williams opened up on her mindset during the pregnancy process and her concerns regarding childbirth.
"It’s like, Wait, what is going to happen?” said Williams. "That’s going to open? What?” I try to tell all my friends that’s normal, and I try to be very open with my experience and the things that people didn’t talk about with me. ‘How is that going to come out of me?’ I know it’s been going on since the beginning of time, but it just doesn’t seem to work."
Although there were complications surrounding Olympia's birth in 2017, some of which were life-threatening, Williams was able to pull through and return to the tour for a brief period of time before finally retiring in 2022.
